Lets face it I am an exceedingly lazy blogger - work & life seem to always get in the way, however I am occasionally so inspired that I feel compelled to share it with others - PAD has proved to be one of those times.

This completely fabulous homewares store is in Sydney's Waterloo & I am itching to get there & spend the children's inheritance. They have just got it right, each restored vintage piece has been given it's own special name & with the use of stunning and luxurious fabrics you can purchase something that already has it's own story, lived a full and interesting life and has been given a new injection of love (I have visions of the above chair smoking a cigar whilst women in pastel chiffon, fur collared dressing gowns dance about it). The idea of buying one of these pieces and adding the story of my home to it's history really appeals to me (even if that does consist of Vegemite smears and the constant sound of plastic machine guns).

My Beautiful Mum & Mother in Law

Well, as of tomorrow our lovely little house is on the market & I feel sick........not exactly the reaction I was expecting.

We really have outgrown this house & with 3 fully charged boys we are desperate for more space both inside & out, so the time has come. Funny how you really don't appreciate what you have in front of you until the prospect of no longer having it becomes a reality. Oh well, onwards and upwards as they say (once again I have to ask, who are these "they" that we all trust so implicitly?).

Have a had a fabulous weekend by the way - Jock turned 4 & we were surrounded by family, friends & champagne - my three favourite things! Hope you all had a beautiful weekend as well.

I turned 40 this week and all the warnings from my friends about how my body will fall to pieces the minute I cross over to the dark side have all come to fruition. Of course it has nothing to do with the party we threw on the weekend, or the other parties we have attended every weekend for the last year (or so it seems). We had a brilliant night, or so the 600+ photo's my friend took show. Yes you did read that correctly - 600+, I know, bloody iPhones, I will never be safe again.

This is one she took of the party princess retiring for the evening & ordering everyone out of her bedroom. The party kicked on for hours after she lay down her precious little head - such stamina!

Now to address the issue of the sever & harrowing neglect of this blog. I have had DOCS (Department of Community Services) knocking down my door trying to figure out ways to charge me for my misdemeanour's - I will endeavour to put and end to my crimes & show my blog (and everyone else's) some love and attention once again.

She sees it. She likes it. She makes it.

It will come as no surprise to those who know me that Black & I are rarely parted. You really just can't go wrong, well actually you can & it would look a little like this...

but that my friends is a WHOLE other blog post.

Anyway as I was saying the black pant/jacket combo is a classically chic one - sure throw a little white or nude in if you are feeling daring, otherwise all black does it for me every time. And how about those cropped black leather pants in some of the images (particularly the ones in the top image), what I would do for some of those little babies. School drop off would never be the same.

Many of you will have seen this before but I was compelled to re post it due to the inspiration it gave me. We have a shed that looks very much like the before shot. I have often toyed with the idea of giving it a massive overhaul so that the boys can have their own space to run riot without continuously driving their seriously-on-the-edge mother over the edge. All I would need is to convince my husband that his tools & all the other rubbish he keeps in there (including a boat) have to go........what do you think my chances are?

OK, so I love the table - high shine midnight blue & fabulous. I however do not love the stools - probably due to my lack of preparation (no undercoat or sanding) and impatience. Besides the fact that they look extremely ammeter - which let's face it, I am - but I really don't know what to do with them.

I have decided that from here on in spray paint & I shall be BFF's (Best Friends Forever). I just need to select my colours (yellow really shows up the drips etc) & victims (nothing with any lacquer on it) a little more carefully, if I want to continue to be so lazy.

All our thoughts and hopes are still with our Queenslander friends - we are constantly thinking of you all. Keep safe & dry.

We are going away for a few days today & packing at this stage would be a really good idea, however after a very late night last night at a friends 40th birthday party I am feeling very weary and have a sever case of the I-can't-be-bothered's.

The photo above really does the party setting no justice (a photographer I am not) - the tables looked beautiful and as the sun set you could see the abundant candle light & the dust from the headers (it is still grain harvest time here) floating across the surrounding paddocks - it looked quite stunning.

A Happy New Year to all - at this stage I plan to be concentrating very hard on the back of my eyelids at midnight so have a drink for me & why not kiss some random stranger as well - just don't get in trouble.........

You might note that I reneged on the below Christmas outfit - the gravy spillage danger was just too high so I opted for gravy camouflage gear instead.

Given that the queen of - well everything really - is visiting our shores I thought I should have a little "My Favorite Things" tribute. However unlike Oprah, as I reveal each item you are unlikely to stand and scream whilst clutching your hands to your face; and unlike our friend Oprah I shall not be gifting the said items on to you - dear reader. I also doubt that by my mere suggestion these products will sell out world wide - actually nothing much is going to happen at all.....have I turned you completely off reading any further yet?

1. Oroton Hair Elastics

I know, fabulous aren't they. My wonderful and much adored mother (written for her benefit, should she read) bought these for me on the weekend. I have to say I feel rather smashing when I wear one.

2. Laura Mercier Illuminating tinted moisturiser SPF 20 (Bare Radiance)

Believe me when I tell you this stuff will make you look 5 + years younger instantly. I am 100% addicted to it. Am actually wondering if I need to start smearing it on my toast in the morning...

3. Day Birger et Mikkelsen anything - especially my new top.

Made this little purchase on the weekend also. I now understand what Faux Fuchsia is talking about when she describes this stuff as "superior Danish product". The jersey in this little baby is divine, so soft in fact it makes me want to clutch it as a fall asleep with a thumb firmly planted in my mouth - but that is a whole other issue.....

4. Chocolate (Snack - to be specific)

I only add this at this particular time due to an out of control craving I am experiencing this very minute - in fact I can barely think straight & can no longer concentrate on what I really wanted to say so will have to sign off - if I think of any more favourites I will add them tomorrow.

Well what a weekend of contrasts. Firstly a weekend away with my Mum soaking up all the glamour that Melbourne has to offer, it even laid on the sun for us. We had a spectacular meal at Neil Perry's Spice Temple on Friday night and a superb lunch at Spoonful in Prahran, beautiful breakfasts and loads of fabulous Melbourne coffee. Lot's of shopping & an all round brilliant weekend.

Simone from Honey and Fizz has tagged me in the "7 Questions" game. Prepare yourselves - you are poised on the brink of pure unadulterated boredom (well hopefully not that bad, but alas I am far from fascinating....)

1. What is one thing you cannot stand?

Really? Only one thing?
People who put their brakes on BEFORE they indicate. I am actually a Road Rage enthusiast - I am constantly creating new & exciting ways to abuse people (within the confines of my car & without them hearing of course, a coward wouldn't have it any other way)

2. If you could go back to your childhood what cartoon or t.v show would you pick to be your favourite?

The Kenny Everett Video Show. I spent my entire childhood determined to be a Hot Gossip Dancer, so much so that I would bust random dance moves on innocent passers by, needless to say, my dreams were never fulfilled.......

3. What's something you do or have done that would surprise a lot of people?

Writing this blog - almost none of my friends or family know it exists. I'm not really sure why I haven't told them and to be honest I'm not really sure why I write it either. But I'm glad I do because it really has opened up a whole new world of friends and inspiration.

4.Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes. Now had you asked me this before the below incident I would have said no - but my mind was changed for me..........

When my first child was born I took him to visit my relatives in the 120 year old home that my father grew up in. It was mid January & stinking hot. Hamish & I were sharing a bedroom as he was only 4 months old & in a port-a-cot next to my bed. That night about an hour or so after I went to bed I woke up & I was freezing to the point of shivering - I immediately thought I was getting sick but thought that I had better roll over & check to see if Hamish felt cold. When I rolled over what I believe I saw was my son floating above his cot. The oddest part is that I knew immediately that it was my grandfather (who had died in that house before I was born) admiring what would have been his first great-grandchild, I rolled back over feeling incredibly calm & no longer cold.

Nothing like this has ever happened since.

5. When you go into a store what's your weakness, something you just can't help yourself buying more of?

Everything - I have a serious shopping addiction & I don't need to go into a store to fulfil it either - online shopping is a blessing and a curse at the same time.

6. What is your proudest moment of being a parent?

There have been lot's and the things that make me the proudest are the quiet and quirky little things they may say or do when it is just us. I guess I feel the proudest when my boys show love and compassion for others - which in my book is one of, if not the most important quality a human can display.

7. If you could go back and relive one day of your life which would you choose?

Again only one? People talk about not living life with regrets but that's a load of bla in my opinion. I regret ever treating the people I love or care for badly because of how I felt about myself at the time rather than for anything they may have done. If I could go back and relive those days I would change the way I have behaved.

It has to be said that to be able to mis-match with success is an art form. This is as true with interiors as it is with dressing yourself. When you look at the images above it all seems so effortless - however we know differently, you have either got it or you haven't. You not only need to get your colours & tones right but also textures and patterns; and even the furnishing era comes in to play . I love Christmas & waiting until the 1st of December to put up the decorations is quite simply torture in my opinion - so we decided to embrace the festive season a little early.....

This is how it panned out:

How cool are the boys new rashies? I bought them last week for our weekend of water-skiing that we have just had. There is always a group of about 6+ families that go & we spend three days skiing, eating, drinking & relaxing. At one stage on the weekend we counted 23 children (we are breeders out west) lining up to have the next turn. It is weekends like this that I remember the most fondly from my childhood & I expect that it will be the same for my boys. It really is true that the simplest things in life are often the best.

By the way the rashies are from my favorite shop, they look like rugby jumpers so have passed the "cool" test for the boys - which is becoming harder & harder to achieve with my 10 year old. Here's the link if you're interested.

Screened Deck

A post by Catherine at In My House has prompted me to seriously consider screening in our deck. I have been discussing this with my husband on & off for a while but he was having great difficulty imagining anything beyond a Spanline type construction - which I might add is fine if it's fits in with the style of your home, which it most certainly wouldn't with ours.

Unfortunately we are only able to truly enjoy sitting outside for such a small window of time out here in the sticks (read: bush/country for my OS friends) due to the flies, and even worse, the dreaded mosquito's - who love me more than any other human I am yet to meet. So a screened deck makes a lot of sense & really wouldn't cost all that much to do, the only problem is where to put it in order of priority in our never ending list of things that need to be done.....

One of the things I love the most about reading other people's blogs is when they show photo's from their home. And I love seeing the humble one's as much as I do the more grand. I guess it is all about seeing what other normal untrained people do with the resources they have. So here are some shots from our humble little abode. I have only taken outside because we had 12 children in our house on Saturday night & I am still trying to clean up the mess - maybe some inside one's on the rare occasion that the house is spotless.

As you can probably tell gardeners we are not - but we are trying, my husband has done all the paving - it was a long and arduous task given the fact he rarely has spare time but he has done a magnificent job. My Strelitzia in the pot on the deck is not happy at all - the leaves are turning black, any suggestions? The hedges on either side are doing well & I hope by this time next year we won't be able to see the awful tin fences. Lot's more to plant and even more to weed, but the garden is finally starting to look good.

There is always something that needs to be done in a house this age but we are getting there - the floors by the way are going to be lime washed.... the decision was made for us because the boards are to uneven for the checkerboard & I just don't think I could keep the white clean enough so lime wash it is - hopefully it will be done by Christmas, so I will show you then.

To be honest with you I rarely buy Belle Magazine - I can truly appreciate the beautiful design within it's pages but I often find the homes far to austere for my liking. However the October issue really caught my eye. The home featured on the cover is in East Balmain & has been decorated by Greg Natale. I love that it is glamorous without taking itself too seriously, a quality I am attracted to in people as well. And the yellow & white striped awning..... well what is there to say really other than perfect.

Sorry about the overkill on the checkerboard flooring but I am in a dilemma about whether or not to put it in our kitchen.... the problem is that our house is so old that the floorboards are all uneven & different heights which makes floating floors, tiles etc impossible (without parting with the children's inheritance). So this leaves us with 3 options the first being to repolish the floorboards with a dark stain or paint, paint white or put down checkerboard lino. The white option has lost it's appeal for me due to the cleaning issues - 3 boys & 2 pets would make mopping a twice daily chore.

Here is the state of things at the moment - attractive aren't they...our floors have looked like this for 8 years, something has always taken priority over them until now, the nagging has paid off except for one small problem, I can't make up my damn mind about what I want.

So what do you suggest? Any advice or opinions are welcomed. Thanks Girls!

Beautiful People - My Family and other Glamorous Varmints - Simon Doonan

Can not wait to read this book! If you loved the BBC's Beautiful People (it was on ABC about 2 months ago) which is based on Simon Doonans memoir, then this is a must read.

It is basically about a boys desperation to escape what he believes to be a banal life and ditch his crazy family, "Doonan decamps with his flamboyant best friend Biddie to London, where he hopes to establish himself among the Beautiful People: those elusive creatures who luxuriate on floor pillows and amuse each other with bon mots", what he discovers is that the real beautiful people are the one's he left behind. Sounds kind of soppy as I write it but is apparently hysterical & if the series is anything to go by it will be fabulous.

I am useless when it comes to taking photo's & as for printing them, well pathetic is the only word that comes to mind. So on the weekend I decided to have a photo cleanup on my computer with the view to actually sending some off to be printed (sometime in the next millennium). However it has just dawned on me that if my house burnt down there is one way to ensure that I would always be able to have my photo's & that is to post them on the www, so here are the beginning of some (I also thought that some of you may be vaguely interested). I also wonder if when I am old and haggard (slightly more than at present) and the boys are grown up whether it would be interesting for them to look at the blog & have a giggle - kind of mind boggling really, I wonder if they will be able to find it?

I would come back as a wealthy svelte olive skinned domestic goddess who would lounge around on the above all day. The reality is that I am extremely fair skinned so lounging in the sun is not an option even if all the other wished for factors where in place.

Those ruffled cushions are too cute & I think on closer inspection they are made from towling fabric.

As I may have mentioned before I adore Yellow (interestingly I rarely wear it & my home is sadly lacking in it), which they obviously do to. I believe they have 7 children - are they completely mad?

Now while we are on the subject of 7. After experiencing 2 of the 7 deadly sins whilst looking at their home, I was prompted to Google exactly what the other "sins" were - BIG MISTAKE! Holy Mother of God, I am done for, because according the Google Bible I regularly suffer (enjoy) each of these sins, often all at once. These include:

Gluttony - need I explain further? You saw the Chocky.
Greed - thought these were the same, however if not I will admit to both simultaneously.
Laziness - well they all go hand in hand don't they?
Wrath - just ask my kids.......
Pride - should I admit that I am actually quite proud of the above inflictions?
Lust - in all it's forms....
Envy - constantly

oooo don't you just love point form? Makes everything seem so official.

Anyway enough about my disgraceful self. I'm off to lie on the couch whilst eating Cadbury's, reading Home Beautiful and scream orders at the kids.

This handbag completely sums me up this morning, I have knocked over 2 loads of washing, fed 3 children breakfast, ironed school clothes, made lunches, "actioned" (thank you Faux Fuchsia) some facial panel beating so that I am semi-presentable in case of car accident, dropped 2 to school, ,vacuumed the car, cleaned the mud from inside the car, & cleaned the toy room..........

Now to the good stuff - Coffee, bloggey catch up and general laziness. I think I deserve it.

What a day that turned out to be!

I would love to send this bed to my gorgeous friend who celebrated her birthday yesterday. She really marked the occasion with a lavish dinner party, fabulous company, flowing champagne, wild dancing & a broken ankle. She spent the day in hospital & now has a cast to her knee. With three children it is going to make life very interesting for a little while - Oh well it sure will be a birthday never to be forgotten.......

Saturday turned out to be a rather eventful day - as I have mentioned before we had a full calendar that saw my husband start drinking at midday & not stopping until quite late in the night - given this nearly everyone we know (including my mother!) has now had the fortunate opportunity to have a viewing of his "lucky yellow undies" - they have "Game On" written on them & as a result of his rather open display I have now put in an order for some for myself that read "Game Over"!

That's what little boys are made of!

We had Footy last night (Rugby Union) & it was bleeping freezing - my toes were so cold they were burning, strangely enough the boys said they weren't cold, what is it with kids & the elements? When I am dying of frost bite/heat exhaustion they don't feel it? I know the princess factor comes into it somewhere but I still don't get it.

Off to Soccer, a baby shower morning tea, 40th birthday luncheon & grown ups birthday party tonight so why the hell am I sitting on the computer blogging? (in my PJ's & slippers no less).
